In the world today, many people choose to use online dating sites to meet people and eventually get into a relationship with them. At first, I thought the idea was stupid, but my view on that has changed.
During winter of 2011, the new year was approaching and I was on my Playstation 3 with some of my close friends, celebrating the end of a great year. I was focusing on making resolutions, but none of them were dating/relationship related.
That night, my old best friend hooked me up with one of my friends who I liked at the time (as a boyfriend) and I was excited that we were together, but I regret that decision.
A few months into the relationship, things took a turn for the worse. We got in fights a lot, there was hardly any romance and I was constantly harassed. I decided to end the relationship. It was too much to handle.
Near January, I met a girl named Samantha, who also happened to hang out with a lot of guys. I wasn't looking to start another relationship, but I started to develop feelings for one of her friends, Jake. But, I didn't tell him
OR anyone, in fear that I might get made fun of or rejected by him. So I kept it to myself and tried to not make it obvious for 3-4 months. It was very tough, I couldn't bottle my feelings up any longer.
On April 29th, 2012 at around 11 pm, Sam, Jake and I were in a chat room texting eachother. We were talking for awhile when Sam suddenly said "You should date alex." out of the blue. I got embarrassed and simply typed a ">_>" emote. I didn't want my cover blown at all. She started listing reasons why (about 4 or 5) and that's when I got REALLY embarrassed. But, to my surprise, Jake said "Sure, why not" and asked me to date him, and of course I said yes!!
So far, we have been dating for five months. I'm very happy. He always makes me smile and blush. I love him a lot. Eventually, I want to meet him in real life and someday, marry him.
I think that online relationships can work if you have trust, contact and love, of course. First, trust is important because you want to trust that your partner isn't going to cheat. Trust makes relationships work!! Contact is important as well. Webcam, texting and other forms of contact are great. Me and my boyfriend use ooVoo, Kik and our Playstation 3 systems to communicate. Love is important too. I like to tell my boyfriend that I love him a lot everyday, and I mean it. Make sure to show affection in some kind of way. It also works!
My point is that if you believe the relationship will work, it can for sure!! :)
